A. General Guidelines
- Please read the guidelines carefully as they are different from the previous years and other Conferences/ Societies.
- Presenting Author should be ratified member of GSI
- Each Author must have contributed to the scientific part of Free paper/ Poster/ Video being submitted.
- At the time of submission, separate designated space shall be provided for the text of abstracts and other information. Names of authors and Institutional/ hospital affiliation and or title or abstract should be mentioned in respective designated area only. Any author or institution related information revealed in the abstract area will lead to automatic rejection. However, at the time of presentation, name of presenting author only (not of institution/ co-authors/ guide/ head etc.) may be mentioned.
- Only Life Members and Associate Members (together mentioned as members in the next paragraphs) can participate in various competitive sections. The International Members can present their work done in India in the non-competitive e-poster category only. Non-members can be co-authors only and will not be eligible for any kind of award. However, the certificate of presentation given to the presenting author will carry the name of all the co-authors and also the title of paper. The link to download the certificate of presentation will be provided to all authors/ co-authors.
- Abstracts are to be submitted online only. No abstracts shall be accepted as a email, Fax, Hard copies etc
- Last date of submission of abstracts by non ratified members for non competitive eposters – 30/06/2024.
- Non ratified members – Ophthalmologists who have applied for GSI membership/ Associate membership can submit abstracts as presenting author for Non competitive eposter section provided one of the co-authors is a ratified member. They will be issued a certificate of presentation. The last date for these submissions will be 30th June, 2024. At present these submissions are to be done in the poster category. All other guidelines will remain the same as poster submissions.
The Timeline
- Submission starts of abstracts – 10/05/2024.
- Last date of submission of abstracts – 10/06/2024.
- Intimation of assessment of abstracts – 10/07/2024.
- Submission of full videos – 11/07/2024 to 15/08/2024.
- Submission of full text of accepted oral papers – 15/08/2024 – please send in MS word format as attachment to [email protected].
- Last date of submission of abstracts by non ratified members for non competitive eposters – 30/06/2024.
- Non competitive 2 min video/ 8 slide PPts – The videos/ PPTs may be transferred to GSI between 01/09/2024 to 10/09/2024. However, Videos and PPTs may also be uploaded on site between 10 am to 1 pm on 27/09/2024. Please bring videos/ PPTs in pendrive only and not in email.
There will be no extension of dates.
B. Guidelines for Free Papers & Posters
There will be three categories of abstract submissions viz: Free Paper (FP) only, Poster only & Free Paper/ Poster. The submissions for the first two categories will be considered exclusively for the category in which they are received. The third category submission will be considered for both, Free Paper as well as Poster. The result based on the abstracts will be conveyed as accepted/ rejected/ accepted as non-competitive e-poster. The accepted FPs/ Posters will be given the opportunity of oral presentations and physical poster presentation respectively. Rejected will not be presented in the Conference. Those selected as e-posters will be given the opportunity for presentation on the available kiosks. They will be given the certificate of the presentation but will not be eligible for cash prize.
- Each member can submit a total of 2 abstracts (as presenting author), one in each category i.e. Free Paper and Poster. However, he/ she can be a co-author in one additional free paper/ poster.
- All abstracts will undergo a three tier evaluation process.
- Based on the evaluation, a member can present a MAXIMUM OF 1 FREE PAPER and ONE POSTER. If two abstracts of the same presenting author are selected in same category by virtue of their submission in the FP/ Poster category, the paper/ poster with higher valuation will be given the opportunity of presentation in the Conference. There are 2 awards for free papers and 2 for posters.
- The physical poster should be multi-coloured with size not more than 90 cms horizontal and not more than 120 cms vertical including white margin. The paper / poster number (on the right upper corner) and financial discloser should be mentioned. The Poster should be displayed on 27/09/2024 latest by 1 pm at the place designated for the purpose. Requisite stationery and assistance will be available on the spot.
- The e-posters should have maximum of Eight Slides excluding title and thank you slide. The financial disclosures should be mentioned on the title slide itself. Rest of the guidelines will be same as physical posters / free papers.
- Eligibility for Award – The submitted paper should not have been published in indexed journal/ submitted for publication in indexed journal. Papers presented in other conferences or published in non-indexed journals can be submitted and shall be eligible for Award provided they have not received any other National or International award for the same work. If any ambiguity found, anytime, the award will be forfeited.
- Free Paper duration is 6 minutes only.
How many authors a Free Paper can have?
- A free paper can have one presenting author and upto 3 co-authors (4 authors in total).
- One of the above 4 authors shall be the presenting author of the free paper who should be a ratified member of GSI.
- Each presenting author can be a co-author in one more FP/ Poster as well.
Free Paper & Poster
All free papers & posters will undergo a three tier evaluation process. If the abstract is selected, the presenting author will receive an email for presentation. There will be three sessions for FP presentations. The best 2 free papers from each session will be presented again in front of a new set of judges who will finally decide one best and one runner up free paper. The adjudged best 10 physical posters, based on the physically presented posters, will be selected for Rapid Fire presentation which will be a 3 min podium presentation. Final best and runner up awardees will be selected from among these only.
Awards

- All awards will be given to the presenting author only who should be a ratified GSI member. No award will be given to a non-member although they can be authors/ co-authors.
- Winner of all awards shall be provided complementary registration in the GSI annual conference of 2025. Additionally, BS Rao award winner will be provided with complementary accommodation as well.
- Certificate of presentation will be given to the presenting author of all categories who actually present their FP/ Poster/ e-poster. These certificates will also carry the names of co-authors and the title of presentation. Therefore, the presenting author should write an email to [email protected] with cc to [email protected] immediately after presenting/ displaying their work.
- All the awards of 2024 will be given in the valedictory function on last day of conference i.e. 29.09.2024.
Abstract Structure
The abstract should be structured. Please type the details exactly as you would want to be printed in the programme book.
Abstract Title
The title SHOULD NOT exceed 100 characters (including spaces).
Synopsis
The abstract SHOULD NOT exceed 1000 characters (including spaces). It should follow the sequence of Aim of study, Material & Methods, Results & Conclusions without mentioning the sub-headings so as to save character counts.
Free Paper Full Text
The authors of free papers selected for oral presentation need to submit the full text of paper as attachment as MS word file (not more than 2500 words – excluding abstract and references – and 6 photographs) of not more than 5 MB file size and send to [email protected]
C. B Sridhar Rao Award
Dr B Sridhar Rao Best Paper Award Session will be conducted every year during Annual Conference of the Glaucoma Society of India for its members under forty years of age on the day of AGM of that year. Among all free paper abstracts received for the Annual Conference of GSI, the best six papers based on abstracts from members under 40 years will be considered for this award by default.

D. Guidelines for Videos
Categories
Video abstracts are accepted in any of the following categories:
- Diagnostic and Community Ophthalmology/Awareness
- Management
General Guidelines
- Each PRESENTING AUTHOR can submit one video in each category which will be selected based on the evaluation scores of abstracts.
- Not more than 3 co-authors are allowed in video abstract submission.
- Video duration is 6 (six) minutes only.
- Only presenting author, who should be a ratified GSI member, will be entitled to get the award.
- Title of the video should not exceed 100 CHARACTERS INCLUDING SPACE
- Synopsis cannot exceed 1000 CHARACTERS INCLUDING SPACE
- There will be separate space provided for the names of authors & institutional affiliation AND for the title and abstracts. Revealing the identity of authors or institution in the space meant for text of abstract will lead to rejection.
- The abstract and full videos submissions have to be done according to the timeline given above. The full video can have the name of presenting author but not of any co-authors or institutional affiliation.
- At the time of submission of abstract, names of authors and Institutional/ hospital affiliation and doctor’s name in the title or abstract should be mentioned in designated area only. There will be a separate portion for the text of abstracts. Any such information revealed in the abstract area will lead to automatic rejection. However, at the time of presentation, name of presenting author only (not of institution/ co-authors/ guide/ head etc.) may be mentioned.
- The videos can be sent to the GSI office in the following ways:
- Video can be sent online through www.dropbox.com/ www.wetransfer.com / www.drive.google.com. Ensure that you share the file to [email protected] mentioning your VT number and title of the video.
- Video may be copied in a pen drive and courier/ speed post it to the GSI office address given at the website You will receive a receipt of acknowledgment by an email in three working days from the date of receipt of the video. If the video doesn’t reach the above address on or before the given date, then your VT submission shall not be considered for evaluation for the annual conference.
How many authors a video can have?
- A video can have one presenting author and upto 3 co-authors (4 authors in total).
- The name of the presenting author will not be allowed to be changed under any circumstances after the last date for submissions.
- Each presenting author can submit one abstract in each category and can be a co-author in one more video as well.
E. Guidelines for Glaucoma Pitch (Innovations)
- Unstructured abstract upto 200 words about the innovation should be submitted before 10/06/2024
- Word limit for these abstracts will be 200 words
- Innovation should have been developed within last three years (i.e. not before September 2021) and can be related to system/technique/tool used in glaucoma management
- Any innovation which has received any award at National or International level is not eligible to participate. However, those published in September 2021 or later can participate.
- A maximum of five innovations will be shortlisted for presentation in GlaucoCherry by a panel of 3 judges based on the Abstracts.
- Innovators will be given opportunity to make their presentation in upto a maximum of 5 minutes using PPT – the presentation should cover problem statement, innovation and impact of the innovation
- A team of three judges will ask questions from the innovators after presentation for 5 minutes
- Judges will score for novelty, applicability and presentation skills
- Top 2 will receive GSI certificates and may get some informal prizes.
Evaluation, Certificates and Awards
- There will be two tier evaluations by two sets of three judges each – first for abstracts and second for full videos.
- Each abstract received by GSI office shall be evaluated by three judges.
- The accepted abstract shall be informed to the author, who will need to submit the full video latest by 15th August, 2024.
- The best adjudged 6 abstracts in each category will contest for the Awards. The full videos of these abstracts will be judged by a set of three judges. The award will be given to the presenting author of the video with the highest score in each category, who should be ratified member of GSI.
- Of the remaining videos, the ones which are considered to be of good quality will be selected to be displayed in the video kiosks in non competitive section.
- All the videos selected for presentation in competitive or non-competitive sections shall be given the certificate of presentation. These certificates will carry the names of all the authors and title of the videos.
- Two best videos in each category will be given cash prizes. However, they will have to meet the basic quality standards. Click here to see the prize details.
Important note
No videos will be returned. Hence keep a copy for your record and send. Do not send the original.
